Festuca glauca
A dense, spiky clump of silver-blue grass in a large bowl. The pea and feathery seedlings are self-sown gatecrashers; it'll be a loner again by winter.
Blue fescue keeps its colour best in full sun and poor, free-draining soil. Comb out dead grass by hand rather than cutting it back hard. Clumps tend to go bald in the middle after a few years; lift and split them in spring when that happens.
A compact foliage feature for a bowl, border edge or gravel planting, contrasting with broader or greener leaves.
Full and healthy with good silver-blue colour. Sharing the pot with some self-sown company for now: a pea plant scrambling out of the bowl and a scattering of feathery seedlings. They'll die off with the frosts.
