Vaccinium macrocarpon
A trailing cranberry in a fabric grow bag, bought at the same time as the jostaberries. Its long, wiry stems carry tiny evergreen leaves that blush red and bronze in the cold.
Cranberries need acidic (ericaceous) compost and hate drying out, so water with rainwater where possible. Pale pink flowers in early summer turn into the berries by autumn.
A low fruiting plant for an acidic-soil container or suitable edible planting.
Ripe cranberries bounce: growers once sorted good berries from bad by bouncing them down wooden 'bounce boards'.
Repotted into ericaceous compost a few days after buying it.
Dizzy spends the whole game hunting down fruit. Berries very much included.
