On the greenhouse cover, Summer 2026
Red-belted clearwing
Synanthedon myopaeformis (likely)
A clearwing moth on the greenhouse cover: black, see-through wings, one orange-red band. Most likely a red-belted clearwing, whose caterpillars live under the bark of apple and other fruit trees.

Did you know?
Clearwings are day-flying moths that pass themselves off as wasps. They are so rarely noticed that most records come from pheromone lures, not chance sightings.
