Single slender stem with compound leaves; the old nut still shows as a swelling at the base. Toothed leaflets hint at black walnut (Juglans nigra) rather than the smooth-edged common walnut; confirm with next year's leaves.
Bonsai: an experimental prospect, with the large compound leaves making a compact design difficult.
Alternatively, a garden tree where there is plenty of room.
The Romans called the walnut 'Jupiter's acorn': its Latin name, Juglans, comes from Jovis glans.
