Dahlia (collarette type, from a 'Pret à Collarette' mix)
A big, leafy dahlia with white single flowers and golden centres, growing in an old plastic laundry trug rescued from the recycling at work.
Dahlias hate frost: once the first frost blackens the leaves, cut it down and either move the whole trug somewhere frost-free or lift the tubers and store them dry until spring.
From a 'Pret à Collarette' mix, the same as the dahlia in the kitchen bed.
A flowering container feature. A border display is another option if the plant is later moved.
Dahlias first came to Europe from Mexico as a potential vegetable crop for their tubers, but caught on for the flowers.
