Acer pseudoplatanus
Experimental cuttings taken from Ned before he came down: one chunky upright trunk section and several thinner branch sections laid horizontally on a gritty mix, some with buds and small leafy shoots.
Sycamore doesn't root easily from thick wood, so this is a punt. Anything that pushes new leaves and holds on through spring is a win.
If rooting succeeds, a thick section could become experimental stump-style material.
If rooted, a keepsake of Ned or a garden tree where there is plenty of room.
Green buds breaking on several pieces, the big upright section included, and one small leaf open. Buds can run on stored energy, so not proof of roots yet. Some surface mould on the cut top of the large section; moisture being kept in check.
Set up today from Ned's wood: a thick upright trunk section plus several branch pieces laid on the surface of the mix. A few buds and a couple of small leaves still showing.
Grandmother Willow, the wisest tree on the Mega Drive.
