Hazel seedling (likely)

Corylus avellana (likely)

Lifted from the cherry's pot and potted separately. Hairy reddish stem, blunt rounded buds and crinkled, toothed leaves point to hazel, so not a weed. Spring leaves should confirm.

Care & updates

  1. Identification

Stem and bud close-ups point to hazel (Corylus avellana): hairy reddish stem, blunt rounded buds, crinkled toothed leaves. Spring leaves should confirm.

  2. Lifted and potted

Removed from the cherryโ€™s pot and potted separately. Part of the taproot was lost during lifting; a section remained, along with fine feeder roots near the stem.
