Salix (likely goat willow or similar; tbc)
Mysterion 1's smaller sibling from the same Berberis pot. Hairy young shoots and grey-blue leaf undersides point to a willow, probably goat willow or a close relative. Whether it matches Mysterion 1 is unconfirmed.
Willows grow fast and root easily, which makes for a quick, forgiving bonsai project.
A garden tree only where there is plenty of room, well away from drains and walls.
Leaf close-ups point to a willow, probably goat willow or a close relative: hairy young shoots and grey-blue leaf undersides. Orange spots under the leaves are willow rust; fallen leaves to be binned.
Removed crispy leaves and dead stems, trimmed away the definitely dead parts of the remaining leaves, and moved to a sheltered spot.
Found alongside Mysterion 1 in the Berberis pot. Lifted, potted into a small pot of compost with perlite and moved into the unheated greenhouse.
Roots were tangled into the Berberis roots and ran surprisingly deep, so some were lost, but a good root ball came out intact.
A few dark marks on the lower leaves, probably bruising from the move. Kept apart from Mysterion 1 as a precaution; watch whether the marks spread.
