Rubus idaeus 'Hararasp'
Sold as a raspberry tree: a Japanese-bred raspberry with thick, upright stems that hold themselves up, so no posts and no wires. Arrived cut back hard on a frame of canes, with a few leaves left and its thorns intact.
It fruits in summer on stems grown the year before. Nothing to prune until it has fruited; after that the fruited stems come out and the new ones stay.
A patio fruit tree in a large pot, or planted out near the raspberry canes. About 1.75 m tall and a metre across when grown.
A raspberry is not one fruit but about a hundred: each bead is a tiny fruit of its own, with its own seed.
Arrived by mail order, cut back and tied to its canes. A few leaves left at the top. Roots not looked at yet.
A bear with designs on the fruit. It's on the label.
