Calendula officinalis, Gazania and Linum
The remaining flowering patch of the gravelly bed, contents as far as known:
• Calendula (pot marigold): orange flowers with dark red-brown centres
• Gazania: pink-and-white striped petals around a dark ring and yellow centre
• Red flax (likely Linum grandiflorum 'Rubrum'): small magenta flowers
Plan: the bed makes way for a step this winter and will be relocated. Calendula self-seeds freely and seed is easy to save from the dried, curled seed heads. Gazanias are frost-tender, so lift and pot them if you want to keep them.
The last part of the bed still in flower: orange calendulas with dark centres, pink-and-white striped gazanias and a few magenta flax flowers, among a lot of self-sown seedlings and weeds. Bed due to be replaced with a step over winter and relocated.
Half the fun was planting flowerbeds and gardens around the rides.
