Dahlia (collarette type, from a 'Pret à Collarette' mix)
Simple white dahlia flowers with golden centres, loved by bees. Dahlias hate frost: after the first frost blackens the leaves, either lift the tubers and store them somewhere dry, or cut down and mulch thickly.
Part of the kitchen bed, planted out in spring 2026.
From a 'Pret à Collarette' mix, the same as the dahlia in the laundry trug.
A flowering feature for a border or substantial container, with the single flowers also useful in a mixed summer display.
Dahlias first came to Europe from Mexico as a potential vegetable crop for their tubers, but caught on for the flowers.
