Our garden

Bonsai, garden trees, houseplants and the odd volunteer seedling.

This is our little online catalogue of everything growing in our garden, made for friends and family. It's a work in progress, and there's always something new going in.

Tags, formerly cans

The metal plant tags turning up in the photos are Kirsty's work, made from drinks cans that were headed for the recycling anyway.

There are several ways to come by plant tags: buying them, stealing them (not recommended), being gifted them or, in the spirit of the thing, doing it yourself.

The bought ones are usually plastic, which is plastic, or wood, which rots and may have been treated with something other than heat. A drinks can isn't plastic and doesn't rot. It will last a good long time outdoors, and it cost nothing beyond the drink.

When a tag starts to look tired it can go back in the recycling, where it was going in the first place. Or be melted down and cast into a statue of Godzilla. Whatever's your poison.
