What the garden looked like before anyone was writing it down.

The catalogue started in late September, by which point most of the year had already happened. These are from before anyone was writing it down.
Most of the work began in late winter and early spring. The kitchen bed, confusingly named, was a corner of grass, old pavers and garden bits. It was cleared, then fenced, then planted.
The pond had a first draft: pond mk1, one small pool with a solar fountain. The woodpigeons approved, which is how they came to stay.
The veg bed began this spring as raised beds of cardboard and mesh: our first honest attempt at growing something to eat. They have since become the no-dig allium bed, raspberry canes included.
Some things looked better then. The braided willow was in full leaf, before the move to the pond and before the dry spell; the hosepipe ban is still on, which has not helped. The China asters and the bee balm were in flower rather than going over.
Others were just getting started. Pedro and Hamish were two supermarket chillies newly brought back to life, the herbs were freshly potted and the pothos had only just arrived.
Honourable mention: the sunflowers. Plenty were grown from seed in a summer that didn't suit them. They have come and gone.
