Big worm
Kirsty said the lemon thing again. This time it was about worms.

This morning Kirsty once again turned to me and said the thing. The lemon thing. I wasn't anticipating what she was about to say, so I was surprised to learn that the thing causing these citrusy feelings was a video on worms. Wormeries, specifically. We had, indeed, been lemons.
Mr Charles Dowding demonstrated exactly how you can make your own, very successfully, without having to worry about ice and bubble wrap. So we did.
The worms have a new home. They are free to intermingle with their soilish fellows, and Earthworm Jim is technically free to find his super suit, but I have a feeling they won't want to leave. The wormery had plenty of casting material, so if they were happy there, imagine their little worm faces when they discovered that we had accidentally ordered their favourite treat: volcanic rock, for our DIY super saver compost mixes.
Speaking of compost, we also came to agree that we weren't doing that right either. We had some, but considering how much garden waste we had remaining in the bin, we were getting something wrong along the way. So with a little more education (my brain is very full right now, I have to make sure I note where the car is parked) and a bit of elbow grease, we did it right. Not much to look at now, but some reclaimed pavers and a bit of mulch will tidy it up a treat.
We used some dirt cheap pallet collars we found online, which are very suited to both tasks. See: a boot full of hilariously cheap pre-cut scaffold board and collars. Having a hatchback isn't so bad. Pictured: bricks, because I didn't photo the wood, and hey, we also have bricks.
Once again, we have been fooled by big worm. Never again. From now on, if there's anything we find we need for the garden that we've not had any experience with, Mr Dowding will be the first person we visit.
